Smith to Send "Long Distance" Cheers to Towson Olympians in Beijing and Invites All  Area Residents to Attend Pep Rally

Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith will host a pep rally in Towson on Friday evening, August 1, at 7:15 p.m., to cheer-on County residents Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff. Representing the local Olympian swimmers, already in Beijing, will be Michael's mother Debbie Phelps and Katie's mother Jean Hoff.  Smith will lead the cheers from Baltimore County along with the Stembridge Colt cheerleading squad, local business representatives, and the community at large. Sending "shout outs" to the Olympians from the sports and media arena will be local representatives, including:

Nelson Coffin, Patuxent Publishing

The pep rally will be held during the Towson Chamber of Commerce's weekly summer event, Feet on the Street on Allegheny Avenue in Towson. Allegheny will be closed to traffic for the rally (7:15 p.m.) and festival that begins at 6:30 p.m. 
 
"All of Baltimore County, in fact all of America, is anticipating a great Olympics, and we in Baltimore County have a special interest and attachment this year," said Smith. "Both Michael and Katie represent the kind of dedication and commitment to team and community that make this country great."
