Historic Towson, Inc. and Tomorrow’s Towson, Inc. are jointly sponsoring a survey of places that matter in Towson. These are places that hold memories and anchor traditions for individuals and neighborhoods and that help tell the history of Towson. Please consider entering places in Towson that are valued for their power to mark history, keep traditions alive, support social networks, store memories of group experiences, or otherwise enhance an area. The results of this survey will be shared with the Urban Design Assistance Team as they work in our community June 7-13, 2006. Our long-term goal is to establish a new knowledge bank that will identify places of public significance and help us to understand how and why “place” is meaningful to people. When a place is threatened; when an artist, activist, architect or scholar needs information; when a student wants to research sites of personal family significance; when a developer wants to make an informed decision; when a councilman needs to know the importance of a place to the community–the Census will be there for them. Your nomination will be acknowledged by e-mail and posted online as soon as possible. Note: Historic Towson, Inc. reserves the right to determine whether nominations are suitable for publishing. |
