On February 13, 2006, Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith held a press conference to announce the formation of a task force that will seek community input and develop a vision for future use of the 200 acres at Spring Grove Hospital Center located between Catonsville and Arbutus. It is widely expected that this property may be declared surplus by the state at a future date. The task force, Spring Grove 2010: Community, Collaboration, Consensus, is charged with gathering community input and submitting its recommendations to the County Executive by June 1, 2006.
In introducing the task force, the County Executive made it clear that whenever the state completes its study on the future of the Spring Grove Hospital Center, he wants to be ready with a community-driven consensus as to the future use of the site. The County Executive promised to forward the recommendations of the task force to the Governor for his consideration.
