Welcome to the Circuit Court

Current Results of the Program

The Circuit Court for Baltimore County began referring cases to court-appointed mediators in September 1997. The Civil Mediation program currently refers approximately 47 percent of the total contested, non-domestic civil caseload, to mediators per month. On average, the Court refers 900 cases to a mediator. Of this total, 63 percent of the cases settle or are dismissed prior to the mediation conference. Of the approximately 350 cases that have a mediation conference, approximately 49 percent settle at the conference (higher for workers compensation cases). The average (mean) time from the date the case is initially scheduled to final disposition is currently 192 days for those cases that settle at or before the mediation session and 262 days for all cases referred to mediation.
