Current Results of the Program

The Circuit Court for Baltimore County began referring cases to court-appointed mediators in September 1997. The Civil Mediation program currently refers approximately 75 cases, or about 47 percent of the total contested, non-domestic civil caseload, to mediators per month. For Fiscal Year 2006, the Court referred 888 cases to a mediator. Of this total, 58 percent of the cases referred have settled before or at a mediation conference. Of the 293 cases that have had a mediation conference in FY '06, 46 percent were settled at the conference. The average (mean) time from the date the case is initially scheduled to final disposition is currently 192 days for those cases that settle at or before the mediation session and 262 days for all cases referred to mediation.

Revised February 29, 2008
