This quarter, the Baltimore County Juvenile Drug Court focused on "self-evaluation" and reflection. With the completion of the countywide expansion and the passing of our two-year anniversary it seemed appropriate for the staff and steering committee of the JDC to reflect on our accomplishments, growth, development, goals, and objectives. On February 11, 2005, the Juvenile Drug Court hosted an all staff retreat at the Oregon Ridge conference and nature center. Forty professionals directly or directly affiliated with the JDC program took the day to focus on program enhancement. Through a series of focus groups and breakouts, specific vantage points of the entire JDC program (communication, treatment plan, funding, etc.) were carefully dissected to celebrate strengths and determine areas in which to improve. From this retreat, a list of essential tasks was generated ranging from policy and procedure modifications to orientation programming the need to enhance mental health services etc. Each essential task has been assigned a target date where it will be addressed in detail at one of the monthly JDC steering committee meetings. We look forward to the continuous positive growth that will proceed from this day of reflection.
Since program inception 48 participants have enrolled in the JDC program. We have had 5 participants successfully graduate from the program and are planning to graduate 10-12 participants in June 2005. Twelve participants are currently enrolled in the West Side location. The East Side drug court has 8 participants on caseload. There are currently 19 youth enrolled in the Central court location. Six participants participate jointly in the Gambaru gender responsive treatment program and are benefiting significantly from the specialized services provided through the marriage of the two programs. We continue to see significant boosts in program enrollment as candidate referrals continue to steadily increase for all court locations.
