Reasons for False Alarms
Why False Alarms Happen
The most frequent errors that cause chargeable alarm activations:
- Using incorrect keypad codes
- Failure to train other authorized users (sitters, relatives, children, visitors, realtors, employees, janitors, delivery personnel, etc.)
- Failure to secure doors and windows before turning on the alarm
- Failure of businesses to notify monitoring facility of unscheduled openings or closings
- Failure to update authorized contact list with the monitoring facility
- Wandering pets
- Items within the home or business that move and cause motion detectors to activate i.e. curtains, signs, balloons, etc.
The most frequent equipment problems that cause alarm activations:
- Improper application or installation of interior motion detectors (sensors are set too sensitive or angled incorrectly)
- Improper application or installation of outdoor beams
- Improper charging or checking of batteries
- Faulty equipment (panels, detectors, keypads, etc.)
