CountyRide
CountyRide is a specialized transportation program providing service to Baltimore County residents 60+ years of age. CountyRide also serves disabled and rural residents ages 18+. Destinations include medical appointments, shopping and other general purpose trips. CountyRide's vans have easy, low-step entrances, and all can accommodate wheelchairs. Escorts may accompany riders needing special assistance at no additional cost. Each CountyRide driver has a commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement indicating that he or she has passed special written and road tests. All receive ongoing monitoring, training and annual certification in CPR and first aid. Drivers wear uniforms and vehicles are clearly marked for easy identification. CountyRide receives the financial support of 14 hospitals that contribute to the public/private partnership program. They are: Franklin Square Hospital Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, The James Lawrence Kernan Hospital, Maryland General Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, Northwest Hospital Center, St. Agnes Hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, The Union Memorial Hospital and the University of Maryland Medical Center. Trips crossing the city/county line require two tickets each way (does not apply to rural residents). Trips for rural residents under age 60 and not disabled require four tickets each way when crossing the city/county line. Books of tickets may be purchased directly from the CountyRide office at 611 Central Avenue, Towson, MD 21204 or by mailing a check or money order to CountyRide. They may also be purchased in person at any Baltimore County Senior Center. Full books of tickets will be refunded only prior to the expiration date. Other Payment Methods If you do not have tickets at the time of your ride, you may pay with cash or check or money order. You will be charged $3 in place of each ticket. If you use CountyRide on an occasional basis (less than six trips per year,) it may be more economical to pay $3 on board in place of each $2.50 ticket. Exact change is required. Cash, personal checks or money orders are accepted. No change can be provided. Charge cards are not accepted. Fare for all trips scheduled is collected when you first enter the van. Supplemental Programs Priority One (PDF) program is designed to assist individuals with economic limitations who need to obtain transportation for medical trips. If you are certified eligible, you will be allowed an extra week to reserve medical trips. This means that you will be able to call up to three weeks before your medical appointment to reserve a ride, instead of the usual two weeks assigned for everyone else. The Volunteer Driver Program (PDF) is an alternative to using CountyRide vans. The cost is the same as a van, but a volunteer will use their own vehicle to transport you. The trained, screened volunteer works under the supervision of CountyRide staff.
