Helping seniors understand Medicare and complicated health insurance matters, as well as deal with the inevitable paperwork, is the task of the Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). Trained volunteers offer free, confidential, one-on-one assistance with medical claims and health insurance counseling. Appointments can be made at most county senior centers or a counselor can discuss the issue by phone. Information is available on the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, Medigap Supplemental Health Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, Medicare Advantage Plans, and other related issues. Presentations are being held at senior centers, senior apartments and with community organizations to explain the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.
