This list of Senior Apartments is generally for people age 62 and over, but some will accept younger disabled people. Spouses under age 62 may be allowed. There are usually no supportive services available. The maximum income allowed for individuals and couples and the range of rent is also listed. Those apartments that have an Eating Together program are marked by an *asterisk. Additional information and information on waiting lists can be located on the Maryland Housing Search web site.
The Department of Aging does not endorse specific housing facilities, and this list may not be complete. Rents and income requirements may change without notice. Congregate Housing Service Program (CHSP)
Supportive Services for Frail Elderly Living in Participating Independent Living Senior Apartments
This is a level of housing between independent living and facilities with level of care. In addition to two or three meals a day and service coordination, the program provides weekly assistance with activities of daily living and housekeeping to frail persons who require assistance in performing personal and household functions. - Senior Apartment Costs:
The rent and income requirements of the senior apartments listed above varies. The construction of these facilities was partially funded by either the State or Federal government, requiring that rents be lower than the fair market value. Applicants must meet income requirements which also vary. Income includes such things as social security, pensions, and interest from IRAs, C.D.s, savings and other investments. - Rental Subsidy Programs:
Assistance may be available to eligible low-income individuals or families through a variety of rental assistance programs. Eligible participants will pay rent based on their gross household income. These programs generally have a three to five year wait, and interested persons should call the Baltimore County Housing Office for additional information and/or an application at 410-853-8910. - Homesharing Program:
A service of St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center. A non-profit matching service between home providers and home seekers who wish to share a home. Applicants are screened through interviews and reference checks; meeting of possible homesharers is arranged. Some fees. Call 410-366-6180. - Eating Together Program:
Provides either a noon-time or evening meal in a group setting, up to five days a week. The meal meets at least one-third of the daily nutritional requirement. An anonymous contribution is requested. Shelf stable meals are also available. Eating Together programs are located at many senior rental apartments as indicated.
