Senior Information and Assistance is the point of entry for obtaining information about services and benefits available to seniors, their families, caregivers and professionals. The SI&A telephone number, 410-887-2594, is the only number needed to begin searching for resources. Certified Information and Assistance Specialists (CIRS) provide comprehensive screening and referrals to link callers to appropriate services and benefits. A computerized resource directory is used to help locate services for seniors. The caller may be referred to other Department of Aging specialists, who can provide an in-depth assessment or assist with benefits applications for such programs as energy assistance, homeowners' and renters' tax credits, Medicaid and food stamps. This can be done either at one of the county's 19 senior centers or in the home of an individual who has difficulty getting out. Staff will mail brochures and booklets on such subjects as housing resources, nursing homes, help for caregivers, and other pertinent topics. Callers may leave messages when the office is closed and staff will return the call the next business day. A Speakers Bureau is also available for community groups to learn about programs of interest to seniors or caregivers. For help with any question concerning services for Baltimore County residents 60 years of age or older or to request a speaker, call Senior Information and Assistance at 410-887-2594 (TTY - 410-887-3787) or send an e-mail to aginginfo@baltimorecountymd.gov.
