Trained Tax Aide volunteers provide free assistance to low- and middle-income taxpayers age 60 or older at senior centers and other sites throughout Baltimore County from February 2 through April 15 each year. Appointments are required at most locations. The volunteers are trained to complete basic federal and state personal income tax forms as well as homeowners' and renters' tax credit applications, to understand the provisions of the tax code that pertain to seniors and to answer tax-related questions. The taxpayer must provide all records required to prepare the returns.
The program, sponsored locally by the Department of Aging, is part of a nationwide American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) project.
