Over the next decade, the number of Americans age 55 or older will increase by almost 30 percent—they will be working well beyond the traditional age of retirement. The goal is to provide employers and mature job seekers with the resources needed to address the changing workforce.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

SCSEP's goal is to provide work experience and on-the-job training to improve the individual’s skills and thus enhance their ability to obtain an unsubsidized job. Watch a video from the Center for Workforce Inclusion to learn more about the program. 

Eligibility

Benefits

  • Training 20 hours per week for 52 weeks per year. 
  • Minimum wage payment paid biweekly.  

Program Funding and Insurance

  • SCSEP is funded by a $45.2 million grant from the United States Department of Labor, in cooperation with The Center for Workforce Inclusion, Inc.   
  • SCSEP is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.

SCSEP Host Agencies

Host agencies provide training, supervision, and work experience for participants. SCSEP participants train at various agencies including but not limited to:

  • Baltimore County Libraries
  • Public Schools
  • Department of Aging Senior Centers
  • The American Red Cross
  • The American Cancer Society

SCSEP participants are assigned to the host agency as their training sites for no longer than one year. A host agency must be a unit of government, or a non-profit organization classified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
