Get Ready! Get Set! Get Fit!

Baltimore County Department of Aging and Towson University's Senior Fitness Project 

Join one of our award winning fitness centers! 

We have received the 2006 Physical Activity Excellence Award from the State Advisory Council on Physical Fitness; the 2006 National Area Agencies on Aging Achivement Award and a 2007 National Association of Counties Award for our fitness centers located in our senior centers. Fitness Centers are located at Ateaze, Bykota, CatonsvilleCockeysvilleLibertyParkville, and Pikesville Senior Centers. A new fitness center is underway for Seven Oaks Senior Center. 

In 2008, we are holding open houses at our fitness centers so that Baltimore County residents can come by and see what we have to offer. The following open houses are currently scheduled:

Edgemere Senior Center Fitness Studio

All have state-of-the-art equipment and programs that are designed to meet the needs of the mature adult age 60 and older. The project is operated in partnership with Towson University, School of Health Professions. Each participant receives a fitness assessment, orientation and individual exercise plan to address his/her fitness needs.  Each center is equipped with treadmills, recumbent bikes and steppers, strength training circuits, flexibility and stretching stations, free weights and more! 

Improve your cardio-vascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Increase your energy and vitality and enhance your overall well-being.

In addition to the new fitness centers, all 19 senior centers offer a variety of exercise classes, group sports and fitness opportunites. Aerobics, The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, Basketball, Bowling, Qi Gongg, Line Dancing, Senior Rhythms, Softball, Strength Training, Tai Chi, Tennis, Volleyball, Walking Groups, Water Exercise, Weight Management, Yoga and much more! Edgemere Senior Center has recently opened a modest exercise studio for its members.  Check with any of our centers for a complete listing of their respective offerings.

Add years to your life and life to your years! In just 13 weeks, one fitness center participant reported, "My cholesterol and blood pressure have been significantly lowered. My doctor is thrilled!" Fitness Centers are offered in the following Senior Centers:
