Welcome to the Parkville Senior Center web page!  Parkville Senior Center is a fully accredited regional senior center serving as a destination point with programs, classes, activities and services for senior adults in and near the Parkville area. Participation in center activities is open to all seniors on a space available basis. Center membership is open to Baltimore County residents age 60 and over and their spouses of any age.

Great Classes, Programs and Special Events

The center offers over 60 classes and activities each week. We have an extensive variety of programming to appeal to wide variety of interests. We offer active classes and activities such as aerobics, Tai Chi, volleyball, softball, ballroom and line dance. We also have creative classes including painting and drawing, ceramics, and crafts. There are educational classes and activities such as Art History, Nature Studies, Psychology of Aging, Cultures of American Indians, computer classes and presentations on a wide variety of subjects of interest to the senior population. We offer leisure activities including Aviation Historians, Model Railroading, cards, billiards, Bridge and Bingo. Parkville has a state-of-the-art fitness center designed to meet the needs of the mature adult age 60 and older.

Special events include special breakfasts, teas, dances, picnics, flea markets, entertainment and our two Red Hat groups. This is just a partial listing of what we offer. You may read about our activities, special events and trips in our newsletter (PDF).

Trips, Trips, Trips

Trips are one of the most popular activities of the center. They are spearheaded by our active travel committee. Most of our trips are single day trips; however, extended trips to distant locations are planned a few times throughout the year. Call the travel office at 410-882-6087 for information on any of our trips.

Services Available

Services that may be accessed at the center include the Center Connection program, Eating Together congregate meals, Community Outreach, CountyRide, Home Team volunteer program, tax counseling, Health Insurance counseling and employment opportunities book.

The Eating Together congregate meal program is offered Monday through Friday at the center. Lunch is served at noon each day. Meals are catered and must be reserved by noon the day before. Meals cost the county $3.60 and special meals cost $5.40. A donation is requested from participants to help with the cost of the meal.

CountyRide transportation can provide rides for individuals age 60 and over. Destinations may include medical appointments, shopping, and other general-purpose trips. Application forms may be obtained and CountyRide tickets may be purchased at the Parkville Senior Center.

The Center Connection program is a service for Baltimore County seniors age 60 and over who need support connecting to the activities and services provided by the senior center. The Center Connection Specialist works with each enrollee to develop a schedule taking into account the individuals abilities, interests and needs.

Senior Information and Assistance provides information or help with services and benefits to senior residents of Baltimore County age 60 and above. They also visit homebound seniors. The Parkville Senior Center Community Outreach Specialist may be reached at 410-887-5340. If it is an emergency and she is unavailable, call 410-887-2594.

The Home Team Volunteer Program matches volunteers with homebound seniors who need assistance to remain in their homes. Volunteers can provide friendly visits, telephone visiting, escort trips, shopping assistance, light housekeeping chores and correspondence assistance. Volunteers are asked to give at least one hour per week.
